Hassan El-Shafei

Fellow in Minimally Invasive Neurosurgery - 2002

Hassan was our fellow for 2002 and joined us from the University of Cairo in Egypt where he was a lecturer in neurosurgery. He was picked from over 30 applicants from many different countries. As the son of the famous Egyptian neurosurgeon, Professor El-Shafei, with whom he had written many different journal articles, he came to us with an impeccable pedigree in neurosurgery. We were certainly not disappointed.

Hassan proved to be an extremely well rounded neurosurgeon. His knowledge base was excellent, he was technically very good and his patient care and compassion exemplary. His most engaging personality proved to be a valuable addition to the CMIN. After a very successful year, he has returned to the University of Cairo, where he will be practicing as a general academic neurosurgeon with a special interest in minimally invasive techniques. He is considered one of the shining lights of neurosurgery in Egypt and has surely made his father proud. We wish him success and happiness.
