Dr Marc Coughlan, MBChB, FRACS, FCS

Fellow in Minimally Invasive Neurosurgery - 2004

Marc Coughlan. Marc is a fully trained neurosurgeon from South Africa who has already had a distinguished career. He has extensive experience in the management of trauma and the sub-specialty of paediatric neurosurgery, having trained under the guidance of 2 of the luminaries in the world of paediatric neurosurgery, Prof Jonathon Peter and Graeme Fiegen.

He arrived on our shores with glowing references from his previous University and, having secured the position from 52 worthy candidates, we were expecting big things! Marc has not failed to deliver. His warmth and compassion has endeared him to patients, families and nursing staff. His surgical skills are exemplary and his knowledge of all aspects of neurosurgery is impressive. However, the qualities that are most engaging, are not those learnt from the text books or the operating room, but those of honesty and integrity that have been instilled into him by a loving and caring family.

We thank the Coughlan family for creating a well-rounded person and thank Marc for accepting the fellowship position for 2004.
